“Chuy, you’re going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it’s always going to be better than Tucson.”
– Hamlet 2
Tucson isn’t all that bad of a place to call home. Don’t get me wrong, reader I love where I’m from. I think it’s the grass is greener on the other side thing for me.
“Fuzzy Face” was another graphic novel set to debut (god that word is spelled funny) on Phoenix Comicon. The writer of the book is Venus of Necro, whom wishes her identity stays private. Hell when I sat down to talk to her about the book, I didn’t even know who I was talking to. I think she hires surrogates to appear in public places for her (which would explain the camera and the mic).
John Chihak is a local Tucson creator*. I know Chihak from his early work on (click on the link to read the book yourself, that’s entirely different read) “Youth in Asia”. He is serious about comics. Love or hate the guy, you have to have a deep respect for his tenacity and love for comic books.
Fuzzy Face is one book that really shines because it’s nothing like anything John has ever done before. This ties in to his universe that he so deeply cares about and you don’t even have to know the characters to get it. He really steps up his art work in this book. This is a mature comic due to the sex, language, Muppet disfigurement and other adult themed material. I enjoyed the hell out of it and will probably read it 10 more times before the end of the year.
There is a a character that is inspired by me (I’m not telling so you have to buy the book to figure it out) but you’ll know when you see him.
I wrote the introduction so go and buy it. Check out his website (AntiHero Press Brand) on the side for more info on purchasing the graphic novel.
Thanks for reading,
P.S. Next is Astrophobia: Adventures of Space Ramirez, then Bald Avenger: Hard Times.
